Kathy was born near Ernabella in South Australia. Her family moved to the mission at Ernabella where she was educated before moving to the Victory Downs cattle station.
Kathy worked as a cultural tour guide at Uluru and then returned to Ernabella to marry and raise her five children. There, Kathy began working at the art centre and then moved to Fregon when it was still a mission outstation. At the Fregon Arts and Craft Centre, she learnt batik techniques as well as painting with acrylics on canvas.
